"SILENT WINTER JOURNEY' by Marilyn Angel Wynn
A few weeks ago I started a contest on FaceBook.
The contest was for fans and friends to come up with a title for this photograph of a Shoshone man wrapped in a buffalo robe and riding his horse in snow. The prize for the winner with the best name is an 8x12 signed gallery print of this photo.
The response received from this post was positively overwhelming. With over 300 entries, the titles given were as diverse as the people themselves. Most of the people were creative and used descriptive words that clearly came from their heart. Then of course there was even a bit of humor thrown in the mix.
Some of my favorite titles were 'Spirit Runner' by Pam Edwards, 'Storm Rider' by Reverend Ericka Shimkonis and 'Winds of Winter' by Daris Reno Blickman. Fun entries that made me chuckle were 'Late for Bingo' by Ron Pinson, 'Going Home To Eat Soup and Frybread' by Tammie Kirkham and 'Help, There is White Everywhere' Laurence Ladyhawk. Another interesting entry by Roy Grandboi, although I don't know the translation or language, was "Nijjii Chi Noodin".
So who won the signed gallery print? Drum roll please..... Facebook fan of Native Stock Pictures and winner of the gallery print is Ben Yazzie of Flagstaff Arizona for his inspirational title "Silent Winter Journey".
